Building Self Trust
We all ask ourselves do I trust this person or that person, or that friend or family member, but have we ever thought to ask ourselves, "Do I trust me?"
That is a question I had to ask myself earlier this month when I was introduced to the acronym BRAVING by Dr. Brené Brown via my sister.
We were texting normally like we usually do in our family group chat when she posted this youtube video discussing what BRAVING means. BRAVING stands for boundaries, reliability, accountability, vault, integrity, nonjudgement, and generosity.
Today we are exploring Reliability, in other words, self-trust.
"Reliability: You do what you say you’ll do. At work, this means staying aware of your competencies and limitations so you don’t overpromise and are able to deliver on commitments and balance competing priorities." - Dr. Brene Brown
So what does self-trust look like for you? Do your words matter to you? Can you hold yourself accountable?
For me building self-trust is fostering a culture and a belief in myself that I will do what I decided to do. Such as waking up early to go to the gym like I set out to do the night before. It may mean telling yourself that you're only getting boba once every 2 weeks. Trust me that did not happen. It lasted a week and 3 days, unfortunately. But we shall try next time.
Why is it that we want to appear trustworthy to others and not to ourselves?
Why do we put the weight of man's trust and belief onto ourselves and not God? Are the opinions of others that much important to us?
As I work on building self-trust with myself, I hope you all feel called to do the same as well.
I hope to explore the other parts of the acronym in future blog posts. Hope you all can journey with me as I build self-trust within myself, and I hope you all do the same as well.
Remember, self-love starts with self-trust.
Peace out party people!
Ps. Let me know how you can build self-trust within yourselves down below!
